Tell me about yourself?

Hi! I'm Karen, owner of The Rocking Pony Baby Boutique, wife to a wonderful husband, and mother to 4 kids. We live in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania, just an hour outside Pittsburgh. Besides sewing, my passions are dogs and horses. I have a small kennel and raise a few litters of puppies each year. I also have 5 horses, my means of relaxation.

What do you make? What are your favorite materials to work with? What is your favorite color?

I am a self-confessed fabric-aholic. I love the different pattern, color and texture choices available and have such a wide variety of styles in my shop because I love them all! My baby blankets, bibs, burpers and clothing reflect my love of color. I have no favorites, I love them all!

Where can people purchase your goods?

The Rocking Pony is an online boutique, found at http://TheRockingPony.Etsy.com Check it out!

what is your favorite thing you have ever created?

I have so many! But there are two that really are special to me. They're both baby blankets, with different styles. The first is a modern quilt, and was so much fun to make. It's the whole colors and textures thing.

The second is just such a fun print, and bright colors. I smile when I see it.

What is the worst thing you have ever created?

That would be a matter of opinion! haha Trust me, the things that I hate never make it to my shop, and usually lay in a heap awaiting the scissors. I do not photograph such things.

What inspires you to create?

Fabric! Seriously, a fabric store is the dread of my children. I walk in all starry-eyed and stay forever. When I see so many patterns and colors ideas just create themselves in my head. My kids help, too. One of my most popular items is a monster my son drew. I stitch him onto shirts for babies, toddlers, teens and adults.

What is your favorite film/music/book/artist?

I am so old-fashioned! My all time favorite film is still, and probably always will be, Gone With the Wind. Also my favorite book. There's so much history there! My music is in the same style, but Todd Agnew is definitely my top artist. His music is incredible.

Who is the most important person in your life?

My husband, no doubt. We're truly life partners and I couldn't manage 4 kids without him!

Who is your favorite DiY designer?

I really have no idea. There are so many talented people out there. Honestly, I couldn't choose.

Do you have any advice for other DiY designers?

Be you, be unique. It's in my shop logo, and it's what makes one person's things stand out from someone else's. Don't be afraid to try something new. Just because it's never been done only means someone else hasn't done it yet.
