Farewell Transmission
Tell me about yourself.
My name is Martha. Right now I live in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, but I have lived everywhere. I am /almost/ done with college. I'm a dreamer, a creator. I'm engaged to a wonderful man who is equally as active in dreaming and creating.
What do you make? What are your favorite materials to work with? What is your favorite color?:
Currently i am focused on creating handmade jewelry. I absolutely love making jewelry and am always inspired to do more. My true true passion of the heart is clothing. Anything and everything to do with making clothing. Designing, making, cutting, pinning, drawing, draping, all of it. I am in my 2nd to last semester of college and I dont have any time for it right now, so i stick with my jewelry for the time being. as far as materials, I really enjoy working with gemstones, things from the earth. aside from that, vintage beads entice me. I love copper wire for its warmth. I like to create a retro-modern feeling with my creations. i dont know how else to explain it other than its reminent of the past, hinting at the future, and existing in the now. as far as my fav color...refer to the question of what inspires me:)
Where can people purchase your goods?
as of right now, my online venue is http://farewelltransmission.etsy.com. Ive just started working with etsy. I love the site and the community, but its very competitive. I am currently working on launching my own website as well. My hopes are to focus it more on my fashion designs than my accessory designs. i love creating things in general though , so my guess is the jewels will end up on there too!
what is your favorite thing you have ever created?
I won an award for this dress a few years ago when I was in a fashion show. I am pretty proud of it.
What is the worst thing you have ever created?
Wow...I would have to say that usually if I am not seeing something going in a nice direction, I stop making it and try to rework it into a new thing. I did sew a heinous orange and white houndstooth vest one time. I thought I could maybe pull it off...I did not. It was one of the first things I had to sew for a grade, though. And that idea alone distracted me away from the inspiration of designing!
What inspires you to create?
Colors, shapes. If you asked me what my favorite color is I would tell you, "all of them!".I am moved by color combinations, whether it be from a pile of dirty laundry, a sunset, or a bowl of soup, I find inspirational combinations all around me.
What is your favorite film/music/book/artist?
Brick is a phenomenal film. if you havent seen it, please do. I am a sucker for good ole slasher films too. Jason Molina-songwriter- saved my life and soothed my soul with his music. palahnuik knows how to write some twisted, messed up stuff that encaptures me. I am stuck finding a good artist to admire right now...i do enjoy the classics: klimt, kandinsky. etsy has some amazing artists!!
Who is the most important person in your life?
wow. where would i be without my fiance? i mean, before he came around, i was a little balloon floating around in the sky. he tied me down
