Epoxy Resin to DIE for! Long time crafter secret!OK, I'm getting the ball rolling in this community by listing my absolute FAVORITE epoxy resin. It's called Kleer Kote and it's mad by U.S. Composites. It's super cheap (in the world of Epoxy resin) only $19.00 for 2 quarts (and the shipping is reasonable given how heavy this product it). It has a 1:1 mixing ratio so it's almost idiot proof and it sets tacky in a couple of hours and hard in a day or 2 (depending on the temp). It has so many uses but in general you can use it to cover jewelry, tiles, clay, etc... in a thin, crystal clear, glass like, super durable, non-yellowing, scratch resistant layer. It makes ANYTHING look profeshionally done and "finished" (and really glossy).You can make custom belt buckles, cigarette/ID cases, decorative tins, and other great goods. I'm listing the directions for making a custom belt buckle in the "too much baggage" forum! http://www.uscomposites.com/kk121.html WARNING: epoxy resin takes some getting used to. After you mix it, it gets really sticky and you have to watch where it goes! I one got it on my pants and it's IMPOSSIBLE to get out! If you know a way by all means post a topic! It takes a bit of technique and attention. P.S. it doesn't stick to rubber (that's the only thing I've found it doesn't stick to after it has dried) so get yourself some silicone rubber to set your projects on after you have coated them while they dry. Oh, and after Kleer Kote has dried it can be drilled/sanded/etc. (pretty much anything you could do with a super hard plastic) |
