Custom Belt Buckles!ok, as promised here's the directions for making a handmade custom belt buckle!
Supplies needed:
1)belt buckle blank
2)epoxy resin
3)image (anything printed on cardstock)
4)charms, rhinestones or anything to imbed really.
cut your image to the shape of the recessed part of the belt buckle. (oval in the case of the belt buckle blank pictured above). coat the cardstock (both sides) in a layer of white glue (Elmers is great for this!) or Mod Podge, let dry, coat with a second layer, let dry. position the image in the belt buckle and affix temporarily with your white glue or mod podge.
*mix epoxy resin components and pour a layer of epoxy resin over the image. pour just above the lip of the belt buckle so you get that cool domed effect when you are finished. Let it harden and ~voila instant custom belt buckle!
OR
* pick some charms or dice or whatever to set in the buckle. pour a very thin layer of resin over your image in the belt buckle setting and let harden for about 30. min to 1 hr. (this all depends on what type of resin you are using, this info is for resin with a pot life under 30 minutes) stick your charms, etc. in the belt buckle where you want them to be (you only really get one chance at this so be careful!). pour resin over the charms and the pic just above the lip of the belt buckle so you get that cool domed effect when you are finished. Let it harden and ~voila instant custom belt buckle!
TIP: to remove bubbles in your epoxy resin before it hardens breath hot air on it or use a heat gun over it. The bubbles will "Magically" rise to the top and dissappear!
