Tell me about yourself.
About me - I'm a stay at home Mum, 32 yrs old and live in Perth, Western Australia. I love art and have focussed mainly on painting over the past 10 years but 4 months ago I bought some polymer clay and haven't stopped since. I'm a missions rep too alongside my husband. We represent the non-profit mission SIM (www.sim.org) in western Australia. My time is divided between polymer clay (and my two online shops), looking after our darling daughter (who is a toddler) and working for SIM.
What do you make? What are your favorite materials to work with? What is your favorite color?
I make all sorts of things out of polymer clay. It's such a versatile medium that I have a long list of things yet to try. I have focussed on beads, jewellery and miniatures but am starting to venture into areas such as homewares (spoons and napkin rings), stitch markers for knitting and breastfeeding necklaces.
Currently polymer clay is my favourite medium but I also love acrylic and oil paint and knitting. I tend to try as many creative mediums as possible and also create objects using acrylic felt.
Favourite colour - as an artist I often tell people that I don't have a favourite colour because I can't have a bias (or the other colours will get jealous) but I am going through a bit of a frog green phase at the moment.
what is your favorite thing you have ever created?
My favourite creation would be my "Little People Beads"
All proceeds from the sale of these beads goes toward Hope For Aids, a social awareness and assistance program run around the world by SIM.
What is the worst thing you have ever created?
There are lots as we make mistakes as we try new things. I suppose it would be one of my first disaster beads found below
What inspires you to create?
I have an inner desire to create. Inspiration is everywhere and I am constantly noting things down. I just 'have' to try new techniques or experiments as they come along. I've always had a creative streak and feel as if something is missing if I don't create every day.
What is your favorite film/music/book/artist?
Favourite films: 'Forrest Gump' and 'The Great Escape'
Music: John Mayer, Steven Curtis Chapman, Keith Green
Artist: Yukinori Yanagi
Advice for other diy-ers: Always be willing to learn, take in inforamtion and think things through. Take time to consider advice from others who are more experienced and be prepared for failures. Without failures we don't learn or grow.
