Tell me about yourself.
My name is Jennifer Kathleen Mulcahy, and I live in North Adams Massachusetts (an artsy former mill town in the Berkshire mountains). I have many interests, including travel, art, photography, anthropology, science, knitting, futurism and lucid dreaming. I'm an artist with years of graphic and web design under my belt, and I also work on several message boards as a moderator. I can be quiet and introspective, but I also love to nurture relationships with people and explore.
What do you make? What are your favorite materials to work with? What is your favorite color?
My current projects are mostly digital photomontage and travel photography, but I also am an oil painter. Additionally, I enjoy knitting, metalworking, dyeing yarn, and trying new things. My favorite color is a sort of medium leaf yellow-green.
Where can people purchase your goods?
People can purchase my work online at http://jmulcahy.etsy.com and via my website at http://jenniferkmulcahy.com. I also participate in occasional art shows in my area.
what is your favorite thing you have ever created?
I have a hard time picking an absolute favorite, as I tend to develop special relationships with a great deal of my work. My current favorite would probably be "To Fly", a photomontage that holds a special meaning for me.
What is the worst thing you have ever created?
This is also a tough question. If I created something that I was not happy with, I would not sell it and most likely would not photograph it. The only thing that comes to mind is a little clay head I made when I was in 6th grade. It got squashed during class and came out pretty badly.
What inspires you to create?
So many things inspire me. My dreams, traveling, and listening to music are my biggest influences, though. Often, imagery will come to me while I am doing the most mundane of tasks. If I can manage to scribble down the idea in time, it may find its way into my work.
Who is the most important person in your life?
My sweetheart, Josh.
What is your favorite film/music/book/artist?
I enjoy so many that it's hard to pick just one of each. One of my favorite films is Vanilla Sky. The Old Blind Dogs is my favorite band, and I also love Jim Malcolm's solo work. I love so many books, and one of my favorite series is His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. Many artists inspire me, but Rene Magritte is one of my all-time favorites.
Who is your favorite DiY designer?
I have far too many to choose just one! Some of my favorites include Linda Plaisted, Artandghosts, andElizabeth Scott.
Do you have any advice for other DiY designers?
Be true to your heart and keep on creating, no matter what. Try not to let others discourage you. Value yourself and your creations.
